Even as a seasoned beauty editor that has seen no shortage of hair, makeup, skincare and fragrance samples, soliciting product recommendations from my friends is still my favourite past-time. After all, most of us aren’t privy to endless cash or patience, both of which tend to be tested when you pick up a beauty product that just doesn’t do it for you.
Thanks to the near-constant onslaught of product launches (does my chest really need an organic mask now?!) and dubious celebrity skincare lines, honest recommendations from friends, acquaintances – or even complete strangers on the internet – are more helpful than ever. They offer a shortcut through all the noise of newness to get to what really works.
So without further ado, here are some of the beauty products that team GRAZIA are truly, madly, deeply obsessed with at the moment – not sponsored, just genuinely great.
Chanel LES EAUX DE CHANEL PARIS-ÉDIMBOURG, $195 SHOP NOW
“This is by far the coolest scent I’ve spritzed in 2021. It was officially released last month but I was lucky enough to get my hands on it a while earlier, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how often I reach for it within my fragrance wardrobe. It somehow manages to feel fresh with notes of juniper berry, cypress and cedar, but settles warm and sophisticated on the skin thanks to the vetiver, vanilla and musk. It was inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s beloved Scottish moors, but the aromatic woody fragrance easily translates as my everyday scent in urban Australia.” – Kate Lancaster, Contributing Beauty Editor
ghd unplugged™ cordless hair straightener in matte black, $475 SHOP NOW
“‘No strings attached’ is a phrase with good connotations. In a rather grim period, GHD have released an instrument of hope; their first cordless hair straightener. Sleek, light, compact and portable, I speak from experience when I say you can literally define a wave in the back on an Uber on the way to a glam event (and then pop the device back into its tiny little heat-proof pouch and put it in your handbag). We’re in the thick of a lockdown now, but great hair days – with cocktails and real life humans! – are on the horizon. P.S. It’s flight-friendly too.” – Jessica Bailey, Editorial Director
Biossance Squalane + Omega Repair Cream, $40 SHOP NOW
“When it comes to moisturiser, there has never been a moment where I’ve thought, ‘Wow!’. That is until I discovered this little pot of magic. My skin has never been so soft or so clear.” – Rebekah Clark, Features Writer
By Terry Hyaluronic Global Face Cream, $129 SHOP NOW
“To be completely honest, I’m typically sceptical when beauty brands that are traditionally makeup-led start venturing into skincare. For a long time I honestly believed that most brands could only do one of the two categories really, really well, but in recent years I’ve been proven wrong. Case in point – By Terry’s Hyaluronic Global Face Cream, which I’ve since discovered preps the skin perfectly for makeup. I was amazed by how quickly the lightweight gel-like formula was able to plump, smooth and illuminate my skin, which is no easy feat given my notoriously troublesome combination complexion. I now use it every day I wear makeup, without fail.” – Kate Lancaster, Contributing Beauty Editor
Sunday Riley Pink Drink Firming Resurfacing Essence, $73 SHOP NOW
“Sydney residents are currently experiencing a strict lockdown period. It’s the middle of winter and as my heating system is constantly on full blast to accommodate my new inside life, it’s really important I keep my skin primed. A publicist friend introduced me to Pink Drink recently and it really is a power drink for your skin. Infused with peptides to keep the skin balanced and firm, it’s the first-stop in my stay-at-home skincare routine (followed closely by Sunday Riley’s Ice Ceramide Moisturising Cream). And honestly, if I don’t emerge from this lockdown looking 23, I’ll be confused. ” – Jessica Bailey, Editorial Director
JS Health Vitamins Immune+ High Strength, $39.99 SHOP NOW
“I’ve always loved immunity supplements. But following Afterpay Australian fashion week where five days of stress and too much vino caused me to feel completely rundown, I opted for a high strength iteration from JS Health. And so far, it hasn’t let me down.” – Rebekah Clark, Features Writer
