If it was up to Ayo Edebiri—the comedic actress, infamous Letterboxd reviewer and now Golden Globe winner—industry events would be a safe space from discussing what their co-workers do in their personal time. Or as she and the cast of the award-winning limited drama The Bear explained to the press, their colleague’s “other job”.

For the uninitiated, the 28-year-old encountered a barrage of questions from reporters both on the red carpet and after her win for best performance by an actress in a comedy series. But rather than their line of enquiry be focused on her critically acclaimed role as Sydney, interviews instead chose to ask her how she felt about the show’s lead, Jeremy Allen White, and his now-viral (and equally steamy) campaign for Calvin Klein.

As those who have seen the video campaign can attest, the short film of White sauntering around New York in his skin-tight tighty whities would be marked ‘NSFW’ should’ve it been rated. Yet, at an industry function, Edebiri faced countless questions—and images of White’s, well, endowment—about the internet’s favourite titillating underwear ad.

Prior to the ceremony, Edebiri and Abbott Elementry’s Quinta Brunson were asked, “What did you think when this [White’s Calvin Klein commercial] came out” by Access Hollywood.

Both actresses immediately grimaced at the awkwardness of being presented with their contemporary’s nearly naked body. Without missing a beat, Brunson said, “Jeremy, put that away” before Edebiri added, “I’m just happy for him, that’s my boy, you know what I mean. I do feel like I want people to understand he’s my co-worker!”

Later, after the series had taken home the award for ‘Best Comedy’, the entire cast of The Bear was forced to confront a blown-up version of the advertisement under the guise of being asked a “really serious question”. Edebiri immediately took hold of the poster and hid it out of sight, saying she was “putting it away”. The cast erupted into laughter, shouting back at the reporter that White was their “boy” and “family”.

“This is a work function,” Edebiri hammered home. The reporter continued, “But this was work too,” with Edebiri replying, “This is his other job!” Ebon Moss-Bachrach, whose character Richie single-handedly delivered the most stirring performance to Taylor Swift’s Love Story ever seen on screen, added: “We’re not at an underwear awards, you know what I mean. We’re here to talk about our show and what we do here.”

The cast agreed in unison—invite them to an award celebrating White’s achievements in the field of underwear and they’ll happily provide comments. Until then, they’re maintaining a healthy relationship and setting firm boundaries around discussing what each other does in their private time, (and with their private parts).
