Together with the Australian Olympic Committee, storied Australian brand Sportscraft revealed its 2024 Australian Olympic Team uniforms on April 17. It is the 10th time the 110-year-old brand has designed the outfits, and this year sees our iconic pine green and gold colourway splashed against modern linen suiting, ombre pleated skirts, and chino shorts.
The lining on the inside of the blazers feature the names of every Australian Olympic gold medallist from the first summer Olympics in Athens in 1896 to the last affair in Tokyo in 2020. The Olympic Oath—a few lines which acknowledges the history of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and ends with “Once an Olympian, always an Olympian”—is stitched inside the pocket of each blazer, and thus at heart level for all athletes.
For the first time, Sportscraft features Indigenous artwork in the Olympic Opening Ceremony uniform, with Olympic boxer Paul Fleming’s “Walking Together” and Torres Strait artist David Bosun’s “Ngalmun Danalaig” showcased in the scarf, pocket square and as part of the Australian Olympians’ Oath.
“Sportscraft is proud to once again bring quality craftsmanship, the finest materials and authentic Australian designs to dress our sporting heroes for the Olympics, just as we have been outfitting all Australians in their everyday life for 110 years,” says Elisha Hopkinson, the CEO of APG & Co, the parent company of Sportscraft.
Volley are the official footwear supplier for the Australian Olympic Team.
Elsewhere, and rather interestingly, Emporio Armani are dressing the 2024 Italian Olympic team in the house’s EA7 brand, a sports line created by Giorgio Armani in 2004. (The number 7 is reportedly inspired by AC Milan’s iconic number 7 footballer Andriy Shevchenko, a close friend of the designer.) Former Vogue France editor Carine Roitfeld, in collaboration with LVMH, has designed the 2024 French Olympic Team’s uniforms. The navy blue, maroon and white pieces will be spun in Italy by famous tailoring house Berluti. Nike are outfitting the US team, and Lululemon are doing Canada’s.
