Elvis Presley is in the building, and by Elvis we mean his gorgeous doppelgänger Austin Butler who earned his first ever Golden Globe nomination in 2022 for his uncanny portrayal in the  Baz Luhrmann epic, Elvis. As the rain beat down across Los Angeles this evening nothing could dampen the reception for Butler which saw fans scream his name under the safety of a marquee.

Butler kept his look classic with a sleek black double breasted tuxedo with wide lapels. As for jewellery he wore a Cartier Juste un Clou bracelet, Cartier Collection ring and Panthère de Cartier ring. His sister was close by and served as his date – a sweet gesture following the death of his mother. The 31-year-old was also photographed alongside Salma Hayek.

The Carrie Diaries alum is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama this evening after a gruelling two-year pre-production period to play the King of Rock. Even to this day Butler speaks with an Elvis-esque drawl, something he poked fun at for his debut appearance on Saturday Night Live in December.

Butler is up against stiff competition with Brendan Fraser, Hugh Jackman, Jeremy Pope and Bill Nighy all in the contention for the globe. It would be a well-earned award for the star who told GRAZIA in an earlier interview that it’s the hardest he’s ever worked for a role.

“What I learnt is that I feel fear every day,” he said. “But, fear is essentially energy and it wakes me up every day at three or four in the morning for two years while making the movie, so it allowed me to think, ‘Well, I’m awake, I may as well read an Elvis interview, watch something or get to work.’”

Elvis is also up for Best Motion Picture – Drama while Baz Luhrmann is up for Best Director – Motion Picture. Jacob Elordi is set to star as Elvis Presley in another film later this year to which Butler wished him “all the best” on the red carpet.
