When it comes to watching the creations of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, we are used to watching a millennial tout those beautifully constructed bold, ruched florals. In Milan, however, Dolce and Gabbana enlisted Italian actresses Monica Bellucci, 53, and Isabella Rossellini, 66, and models Carla Bruni, 50 and Eva Herzigova, 45, among its model cast to showcase its spring/summer 19 collection.

The Italian duo have been at the centre of controversy surrounding their past claims IVF children are “synthetic”, their defence of Melania Trump wearing a AUD $70 000 jacket and their reported fat-shaming and cultural appropriation. It was surprising too then that the runway was not only extremely diverse and non-ageist but included Emily Ratajkowski and plus-size model Ashley Graham. Is this the new DNA for an otherwise socially polarising house?

To the surprise of global fashion commentators, there weren’t consistent capsule collections of looks in the range. Each woman instead walked her own individual style down her own catwalk, all tied together by decadent florals and a bold, gold earring. See some of the highlight below.
