We already knew that Ariana Grande was a big fan of retro fashion and beauty looks – having rocked everything from early-2000s sweeping side bangs to the her iconic 60s-inspired ponytail – but the singer has proven her love for noughties nostalgia by donning a memorable look from one of the era’s most iconic movies, 13 Going On 30.

The 2004 film (which was known as Suddenly 30 in Australia) stars Jennifer Garner as Jenna Rink, a 13-year-old who is granted a wish to inhabit her future ’30, flirty and thriving’ self. In the beloved movie, Garner dons a colourful Versace mini-dress to wear to a fancy magazine event, coupled with a spiky bun and frosted lilac eyeshadow.

Now Grande has recreated the look by wearing the very same dress as Garner did in the flick, coupled with blue platform sandals and strikingly similar hair and makeup, for a live episode of The Voice.

Designer Donatella Versace was quick to commend Grande in the house’s archive look. “My gorgeous girl @arianagrande in Versace SS03 for her first The Voice live show!!!” she captioned a snap of the star wearing the mod mini-dress on Instagram.

Garner also sung the praises of Grande’s tribute to her character, writing, “I know this dress!” on her Instagram Story alongside a snap of the singer wearing the infamous outfit. “It’s never looked better, @arianagrande”, she added.

Grande’s long-time stylist Mimi Cuttrell revealed that the look was “six months in the making”, working alongside Ash K Holm on makeup and hairstylist Josh Liu to create the Jenna Rink’s playful ensemble.

Holm’s makeup look, with soft purple eyeshadow and glossy lips, likely comes courtesy of Grande’s new cosmetics brand, r.e.m. beauty, which officially launched this week after months of teasing by the star. “I’ve been wearing all [r.e.m. beauty] products on The Voice. I wear them all the time to work. I wear them on TV,” she said in a recent interview.

“I’m always wearing the marker and the lip. And everyone asks, ‘What are you wearing?’ And I’m like, I don’t know, so this is exciting to finally be able to say [r.e.m. beauty]. It’s been really cool to secretly test and see them on TV.”
