By now we’ve become long-accustomed to Ariana Grande‘s long sweeping locks, her perfectly slicked-back ponytail. But as the temperature heats up, the artist has swapped the extensions for a neat cropped lob – a long bob. On Instagram the singer debuted her new look which was paired with a vibrant faux fur hat.

The last time we saw Grande’s short ‘do was back in November 2018. In master hair disguise, the “Thank U, Next” star appeared on the red carpet in December 2018 wearing her usual snatched high pony. You can thank Chris Appleton (behind the likes of Grande in the past, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez).

The fresh change is in part due to Grande’s new husband, Dalton Gomez. In late 2020, the artist told radio show host Zach Sang that her fiancé at the time loves her natural hair.

“My real hair, which is the humungous, curly, curly poof, is kind of, I don’t know…so few people get to see it, and it’s cute, and it reminds me of me as a kid and it reminds me of…it’s who I am privately. But so is this. I wear my ponytail all the time too, but the curls are definitely something that I don’t bring around much.”

If you’re tossing up between growing out your own hair (or attempting to) or choosing to make the chop, let Ari influence you this time. And if you need further convincing, Kaia Gerber’s take on the bob, a more layered iteration, is 2021’s most requested hair cut.

Speaking to Insider in 2018, the evolution of Grande’s ponytail began as a way to mask her real unhealthy locks following years of hair dye for her role as Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon series, Victorious.

“I wear it in a pony tail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down,” Grande said. “It’s all that works for now (AND I’m comfortable for the first time in years).”

Hopefully we see much more of the lob this summer.
