They’ve taken jabs at each other in court documents and leaked information about each other to the media via ‘anonymous’ sources, but it seems Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are approaching their divorce in a new light in the new year.

The ex-couple made an unexpected move by releasing a joint statement on Tuesday, saying their court proceedings will be handled privately going forward.

“The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues,” the statement published by People read.

“The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification.”

The announcement comes after Brad Pitt expressed his concern via court documents about information regarding their children becoming public, and put the blame squarely with Jolie, saying she compromised the children’s best interests by making certain personal details about them available to the public, and that she “has no self-regulating mechanism.”

Pitt is seeking joint-custody of the couple’s six children, but Angelina has seemed resistant to the idea throughout the process, seeking sole custody. With the new approach keeping the matter private, we may not know the outcome for some time, if at all.
