Over the weekend, Angelina Jolie celebrated her 46th birthday, spending the evening with all six of her children, who reportedly surprised her with dinner at popular Los Angeles restaurant, Tao.

For the occasion on Friday night, the actress swapped her usual all-black and neutral uniform in favour of something a bit more festive, wearing an eye-catching bright yellow organza dress.

In photos taken by The Daily Mail, Jolie paired the floaty summer dress with a black Valentino handbag, nude pumps, and a grey face mask. She wore her long brunette hair down and added golden brown eyeshadow.

Jolie’s children, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt, Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and 12-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox were all photographed leaving the restaurant with their mum. According to a source who spoke with PEOPLE, “The kids surprised her with a special dinner out” and, prior to that, they “had a great day celebrating at home.”

Earlier this year, Jolie spoke about how her children love surprising her for special occasions. “My kids have always been amazing at Mother’s Day,” she told Extra. “The fun for me is that I don’t plan anything, I don’t do anything, and they all tend to work together to surprise me with something.”

“It is just the knowing that they are doing something together and thinking of something together, and that they want to and that they think it is important always makes me cry,” Jolie added. “They always joke about how quickly it makes me cry. They will laugh at how many times I cry in the day or how quickly I cry … ‘Oh, there she goes!'”

Recently, Jolie opened up about home life in the pandemic and how she’s adjusting to life without Pitt. When asked whether she’s currently in a happy stage, the actress candidly replied, “I don’t know.”

“The past few years have been pretty hard,” she said. “I’ve been focusing on healing our family. It’s slowly coming back, like the ice melting and the blood returning to my body.”
