Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck sparked a relationship in March 2020 after the couple met as co-stars on the set of Deep Water. For the actress she had been residing in Los Angeles for just six years – previously knowing no english – before she was met with a wave of interest from all over the globe. But according to de Armas, it wasn’t all good attention. In fact she described it as “horrible” in a new interview.
“Yeah, which is good,” the actress told Elle in a cover story. “That’s one of the reasons why I left L.A.”
She continued, clarifying her decision to leave the Californian city. “Going through it [myself] confirmed my thoughts about, ‘This is not the place for me to be.’ It became a little bit too much. There’s no escape. There’s no way out.”
The actress added that the city left you with the feeling of “something that you don’t have, something missing. It’s a city that keeps you anxious.”
De Armas and Affleck confirmed their relationship in May 2020 when the Knives Out star posted photos with Affleck for her birthday. The now-deleted images showed the couple cuddling. The pair weathered rumours they were engaged before they suddenly split in January 2021. It all resulted in a life-size cutout of the actress being thrown in the recycling by a masked man. We still don’t know who it was.
After departing the west coast, de Armas moved to New York City where she now lives with boyfriend and Tinder executive, Paul Boukadakis. Nowadays she attempts to keep her personal life as private as possible. She avoids Googling herself and largely stays off social media. “I deleted Twitter years ago,” she said. “I have barely been on Instagram for almost a year.”
De Armas will appear in the upcoming explosive biopic on Marilyn Monroe, BLONDE, where she will portray the titular character. Watch the teaser, here.
