Actress Tessa Thompson has a taste level that puts ours to shame. When she’s not flouncing around red carpets in new-season Loewe, she’s being dressed in voluminous gowns by Valentino‘s Pierpaolo Piccioli, or rocking baroque silk suits by culty New York label Vaquera. All of which is to say, she was never going to be wearing 5-for-$10 disposable medical masks, like the right of us mere mortals.

In fact, Thompson may be the owner of the world’s coolest face mask collection. Taking to Instagram last night, the Creed actress shared seven selfies, each with a different, tasteful, designer face mask. One was red and floral, another embellished with crystals, another featured designs hand-printed on linen. In short? It made us want to upgrade our mask game, stat.

In the comments’ section, Thompson revealed that she had decorated a couple of the masks herself by hand—but most are creations made by the Nigerian-born, New York-based designer Teni ‘Tia’ Adeola. Before COVID-19, Adeola’s namesake label created frothy silk separates that found favour with the likes of Lizzo and Gigi Hadid. During quarantine, she began using silk off-cuts from her collections to create avant-garde ruffled face masks that quickly became an Instagram sensation. New York Magazine wrote a profile on the masks’ ubiquity, and a cream iteration appeared on the cover of Self magazine. Thompson is but one of the labels’ growing devotees.

Below, we celebrate Thompson’s chic-as-hell mask collection—you can shop the Tia Adeola range of masks for yourself here.
