Johnny Depp is the 12th richest actor in the world, according to the Forbes 2015 list.

But the Alice Through The Looking Glass star stands to lose a significant sum of his fortune in what looks to be an ugly divorce battle with his wife of 15 months, Amber Heard.

According to California law, a spouse is entitled to one half of however much a couple’s combined worth increased during the marriage. Since the couple did not sign a pre-nup before they tied the knot in February 2015, legal experts have told the New York Post that Depp could be forced to give his soon-to-be ex-wife a bare minimum of $US20 million: $US10 million from his income and about the same from the properties he owns, which includes his private Caribbean island – those things don’t come cheap.

On top of that, Depp earned an estimated $US61 million for Alice Through the Looking Glass and $US40 million for his role in Black Mass. How much of that the actor has spent is anyone’s guess, but regardless, Amber could walk away with half of whatever is left.

The settlement will also cover their Los Angeles condominium (the scene of alleged domestic violence against Heard that saw the model take out a restraining order against her husband), Johnny’s Range Rover, and of course the custody of the couple’s Yorkshire Terriers Pistol and Boo, known all too well to Australians after Heard smuggled them into the country without declaring the pooches to customs authorities, resulting in a court case and an awkward apology video from the couple.
