In a thrilling first for Australian fashion, Dior has tapped Australian actress Alycia Debnam-Carey to be their first ambassador for fashion for Australia. Joining the likes of Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lawrence, and Rihanna in the illustrious line of Dior ambassadors, Debnam-Carey fuses her effortless elegance with the house’s spirit of dynamic femininity.

Known for playing Alicia in FX’s cult hit Fear the Walking Dead, the actress most recently starred as the lead in Prime Video’s The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart alongside Sigourney Weaver and Asher Keddie. Jetting between Los Angeles, where she lived for her twenties, and Sydney, where she was raised, the 30-year-old is a bold force to watch in contemporary cinema. As she wraps up her time on the shows that trusted her into the limelight, the actress gets ready to embark on a new chapter of her career. Coming into her own now, Debnam-Carey makes the perfect Dior muse.

In September, she got a taste of what the partnership has in store as she attended her first Paris Fashion Week for Dior’s spring/summer 2024 show at the iconic Jardin des Tuileries.

To mark the momentous news, GRAZIA chats to Debnam-Carey about what Dior means to her and the pieces she’ll be having and holding for life.

Who are the fellow ambassadors you look up to, and why?

For me, Charlize Theron has always been such an icon. She’s such a talented and multi-faceted actress, and I really admire the dynamic and long-standing career she’s carved out for herself. She’s also the epitome of elegance, strength, and glamour. I’ve also always admired Jennifer Lawrence. She was a significant acting influence for me growing up and had such a fresh, authentic, funny, and grounded presence.

Who is the Dior woman to you?

The Dior woman is elegant, classic, and timeless. Strong and powerful, she embraces her femininity and isn’t afraid to take up space. She has presence and gravity.

I hear you were given a tour of the Avenue Montaigne flagship! Tell us about that experience.

I was so lucky to visit the Dior Flagship boutique during Paris Fashion Week, and it was nothing short of luxurious. We were given a tour of all the different parts of the boutique, which included an incredible indoor winter garden terrace, the cafe and the Dior restaurant helmed by a Michelin-starred chef, which was extraordinary. The attention to detail, honouring of history and overall care was out of this world. Not to mention—everything was Dior! Everything. It wasn’t just a store; it was a whole experience.

What are some of your favourite Dior pieces?

I love the Iconic Lady Dior Bag; it’s such a classic, timeless piece. The Dior Toujours Bag is my go-to at the moment when I need to carry a lot—and I can carry a lot. I recently bought a cashmere cropped bar-style jacket from the Avenue Montaigne boutique, which is beautiful. It felt very Parisian and chic—a fitting momento for my first Paris Fashion Week. It’s something I’ll have for life.
