Standout winner for best-dressed guest at the star-studded Dior Cruise 2018 show
And the style icon wore… silver. In the form of a tailored suit, no less. Amid the sea of famous faces from the worlds of film, modelling, fashion media and social influence in the front row at the Dior Cruise 2019 Collection runway show in Chantilly this weekend past, Alexa Chung chose to take a far more armoured stance.
The television presenter, designer, style icon and model chose a woven silver Dior suit – with of-the-moment cropped and flared pants, no less – over the sexy, floaty dresses many of her contemporaries opted for. And aren’t we all the better off for it.
“A night in shining armour,” she jokingly captioned a photo on Instagram of herself posing for photographers before the show. Her only bling (apart from the herringbone suit thread itself, clearly) was a gold crocodile Lady Dior handbag. The red hearts patched on the bag of her black heeled Dior pumps matched her red lip. The cut of her slim-line two-piece fitted so well it seemed bespoke.

While far from a wallflower look, it was still elegant and relaxed. The only hint of her famously quirky personality to shine through was the bohemian yin-yang ring on her right hand, clearly on show in this photograph of Chung with fashion journalist and friend to the stars, Derek Blasberg.
Her own eponymous fashion line, launched in 2016, is a more feminine, retro mod-look aesthetic: cute A-line ’70s skirts, ruffled lurex dresses and her long-time signature look, denim overalls.
“Sometimes the hardest thing to do in design is show constraint and confidence in more muted things and these I think are beautiful because they’re so classic and minimal,” Chung has said in the past. A sentiment perhaps saved for moments away from the A-list FROW, thank heavens.
