In May 2019, Adele shocked fans when she reemerged onto Instagram after six months, blonde, and seemingly more slim. It turns out the Grammy-winning singer had lost an incredible 100 pounds (or roughly 45 kilograms). In a new cover interview Adele has revealed it arrived with negative backlash from female followers.

“The most brutal conversations were being had by other women about my body,” Adele said. “I was very f–king disappointed with that. That hurt my feelings.”

Despite splitting from her husband Simon Konecki 12 months prior, the weight loss wasn’t a revenge body either. Instead she realised that exercise quelled her anxiety.

“I realised that when I was working out, I didn’t have any anxiety,” she explained. “It was never about losing weight. I thought, If I can make my body physically strong, and I can feel that and see that, then maybe one day I can make my emotions and my mind physically strong.”

In response to those who said it was a revenge body, she said, “Oh my god. Suck my d–k! I did it for myself and not anyone else.”

The “Hello” singer noted that she understood why some fans felt betrayed by her new look. “Visually I represented a lot of women. But I’m still the same person.”

“People are shocked because I didn’t share my ‘journey,'” she added. “They’re used to people documenting everything on Instagram, and most people in my position would get a big deal with a diet brand. I couldn’t give a flying f–k.”

The new interview comes after the artist announced the release of her latest single, “Easy On Me” on October 15. The new track will be the first music she has released since 2016. An album – rumoured to be titled “30” – is slated to follow. Her last full body of work was released in 2015.

It is safe to say we’ve missed Adele’s realness (and the music too).
