Naomi Campbell has spoken for the first time about a terrifying ordeal in which she was targeted by criminals in Paris in 2012 – just like Kim Kardashian.

The supermodel opened up about her experience during an interview on The Wendy Williams Show on Thursday, revealing how a crime ring followed her from the airport in Paris and demanded she hand over her belongings as she got out of the car outside her friend, designer Azzedine Alaia’s home in the Marais.

“I kept mine on the down low, but in 2012 I was attacked in Paris,” she told Williams.

“They followed me from the airport. They attacked me. They opened my car door and said, ‘Naomi Campbell, we’re going to kill you.’ I didn’t make it so public; I didn’t want it to be.”

Campbell explained that the driver was in on the attack, and she’d suspected something was up when he had all the car windows down, despite the cold November weather (possibly so the thieves could reach in and rob her).

“Thank God it was outside Azzedine Alaïa’s shop—that’s the entrance to get into the house—because they came out and saved me, basically. You decide in a split moment—I don’t know if I’d ever do this again, in hindsight—’Am I going to let this guy take my bag with all my passports or am I going to fight for it?'” she said. “My decision was, ‘I’m not letting my bag go.’

“The driver was in on it. There’s a whole ring. It’s been happening for a few years now.”

The 46-year-old’s leg was injured in the attack but she was otherwise unharmed.

Campbell, who said she’s been close with Kim for a few years, seemed to be sharing her story to legitimise what happened to Kardashian back in October, as some have accused the reality TV star of faking the robbery.

“I hated hearing these stories that it wasn’t true. It was absolutely true and it happened to me, and it’s happened to a few other people—but it’s not for me to say—who are well-known also.”

Campbell and Kardashian were together in Paris for Fashion Week in the days leading up to Kim’s robbery, with Kardashian sharing a photo of herself with Naomi on her account about 48 hours before the attack.

Kim was alone and without security in her rented apartment when a group of thieves gained entry, bound and gagged her and robbed her of a speculated $10 million in jewels and other items. She went cold turkey on social media following the incident, only updating her accounts for the first time this week.
