There are few New York addresses more storied than The Plaza, and fewer places more fitting for Tommy Hilfiger’s particular spirit of Americana. Today, the designer returned to the legendary hotel for Spring/Summer 2027, transforming the Palm Court and Terrace Room into a runway. It was a fitting choice, as Hilfiger once lived at The Plaza with his family, making the show as much a personal homecoming as a fashion statement.
“For 40 years, I’ve been inspired by the style of New Yorkers—how the people of the city take the classics and make them their own,” Hilfiger said in his shownotes. This season, those classics were duly remixed with an androgynous sensibility. Rugby dresses showed up in bold colour blocks, Oxford shirts were cut in Ithaca stripes, while tartan plaids lent Ivy League blazers a familiar polish. Polos swung from shrunken to oversized, while chinos were reinvented as high-cut hot shorts or given denim-like twisted seams.
The palette stayed firmly in Tommy territory, with red, white and blue joined by vivid yellow and green. Faded flags appeared across superfine suede and silk-cashmere, while ’90s-inspired skate sneakers, boat shoes, penny loafers and leather pool slides kept things grounded below the ankles.
The casting was suitably eclectic, too, with Gigi Hadid opening and Romeo Beckham closing the show. Elsewhere, Kate Moss, JISOO, Camila Cabello and a roster of A-listers filled the front row. And as we’ve come to expect of any Tommy show, the music didn’t disappoint, with The Matt Jones Orchestra supplying the soundtrack before Slayyyter arrived for a high-energy finale in head-to-toe Tommy Hilfiger.
