Taylor Swift’s modus operandi has always been about singing songs of love and romance of the grand, cinematic variety. But it was Travis Kelce‘s grand audio declarations in 2023 that saw the singer swooning.
On her now-boyfriend’s podcast, New Heights, she took a moment to thank the show for its role in connecting the two.
“This podcast did a lot for me. I owe a lot to this podcast,” she began. “This podcast got me a boyfriend.”
As the story goes, back in 2023, the NFL player got on air to lament his failed attempt to meet Swift during her Kansas City Eras Tour stop. Gently mocking his endearing tactics, Swift laughed that Kelce hadn’t pulled strings with her management, but purely bet on the fact that he “knows the elevator lady” and figured he could find his way to her dressing room.
“That’s how it worked in 1973,” she laughed. “It was such a wild romantic gesture… This dude didn’t get a meet-and-greet, and he’s making it everyone’s problem. That’s what I thought at first.”
Comparing the move to the stuff of 80s romcoms, she explained why it won her over.
“It felt like a modern version of standing outside my window with a boombox, like, ‘I want to date you! Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet! Do you want to date me?’”
While it could’ve been misread, she chose to take a chance on the tight end.
“I was like, if this guy isn’t crazy, which is a big if, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,” she gushed. “It was wild, but it worked. I’m glad it worked,” she said while cupping Kelce’s face in her hands.
Also feeling the love, he quipped back with his own affections.
“I’m the luckiest guy in the world,” he said.
Although when Kelce’s brother and co-host, Jason, asked Swift how she knew the Kansas City Chiefs star wasn’t crazy, Swift joked that she didn’t.
“He is crazy,” she said. “He’s the good kind of crazy.”
When the couple finally connected after the podcast episode aired, the rest was easy.
“The way he could make me laugh so immediately about normal things,” she reflected, “was just very pure.”
Kelce, for his part, was equally smitten. “She blew me away,” he said. “ I had never experienced something so mesmerising on stage and then something so real and so beautiful in person.”
By the time she attended that now-famous first September football game to watch Kelce play, they were happily in the hard launch stage of their relationship and are still going strong today.
During the same appearance, the 35-year-old announced her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, which is set to be released on October 3rd.
