Wet hair is often on high rotation during fashion week, with designers favouring the slicked look’s ability to add an athletic edge to their collections. For the Spring/Summer 2017 season alone strands were shined to one side at Balmain and raked back at Altuzarra, but it’s not often that celebrities take the slicked back risk on the red carpet – until now.

Always at the beauty forefront, Kim Kardashian teamed her barely-there ensemble at the MVA’s earlier this year with some relaxed, finger raked curls. Just this week too our perennial hair muse Gigi Hadid opted to forgo her signature California beach texture for some retro-wet waves while attending a Stuart Wiesman event. Choosing a subtle take on the trend was actress Ashley Benson, who paired her centre-parted, poker straight strands with super sleek and shiny crown at the Teen Choice Awards in July this year.

Hairstylists at fashion week tend to reach for runway ready products that can withstand hours under hot lights and high speed outfit changes. Backstage at Balmain, Sam McKnight revealed the secret slick behind Olivier Rousteing’s army was cult hair gel, Cock Grease (yes, you read right), which gives grip and shine, but washes out easily with water. The best part about the wet look? It’s heat and humidity-proof, just pick your shine-boosting product and you’re good to go.
