Australian exports are stealing the show on the 2023 Golden Globe Awards red carpet this evening as Hollywood celebrates excellence in film and television. Margot Robbie walked the red carpet following her nomination for Babylon with Elizabeth Debicki shortly following in blush gown. Looking every bit a royal in her first awards ceremony since appearing in The Crown.
Following a stint from Emma Corrin in season three and four, the French-Australian actress went on to portray Princess Diana in the season five of The Crown. Her performance was captivating and tonight earned her a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical-Comedy or Drama Television Series. Hannah Einbinder, Julia Garner, Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph are also up for the award while the Netflix series was honoured with three more nominations.
The fifth instalment detailed some of the most tumultuous years of Princess Diana’s life including her very public divorce from the now King Charles. Debicki was also tasked with recreating the 1995 revenge dress and the moment was not lost on the actress.
“When it became known that I had the part, I received these text messages saying congratulations, [but] there was also a huge amount of text messages about the Revenge Dress,” she told Entertainment Weekly prior to the season release. “‘Do you get to wear the Revenge Dress?’ ‘Oh, my God, you get to wear the Revenge Dress!’”
Given the track record of The Crown at the Golden Globes – including the 2021 win for Best TV Series Drama and Best Actress and Best Actor in a TV Series Drama – Debicki is in strong contention.
