When makeup artist Pat McGrath and hair stylist Guido Palau join forces, you know the results will be out of this world. Valentino Haute Couture 2020 beauty is the prefect summation of this statement. The entire show – from bouffant to blush placement – was magic.
Makeup was varied, but an ice cream parlour colour palette ran throughout: punchy raspberry, bubblegum blue, sweet peach and strawberry hues were a constant. It was less about a certain feature and more a blurring of them all. Blush ran seamlessly into eyes, one shade melting into the next. Lips were frosted with an iridescent lilac shimmer – the actual shade used was Lavendaring from McGrath’s Opulust lip gloss.
Beneath the colour, skin was simply perfect: hydrated, glossy and radiant. McGrath is known for her hyper-real complexion work, often layering skincare, light foundation, concealer, balms and highlight to reach peak levels of luminosity.
And not to be outdone, Palau presented us with a beehive of grand proportions, crafted of airy waves piled high onto the head (and presumably lots of hairspray). The bouffants were juxtaposed with short, sharp ponytails structured with a slick centre part and a healthy dose of shine.
From blush to bouffant, not a beauty detail was spared. It was couture beauty of the best kind. And with two legends steering the ship, would you expect anything less?
