In the famous words of Beyoncé amid an on-stage technical glitch, “Somebody getting’ fired”. So should be the case at today’s Grammys when Adele took to the stage to pay tribute to late music legend George Michael. As she began her live rendition of Michael’s Fast Love, she appeared to have sound issues and swore into the microphone.

“I know it’s live TV, I’m sorry,” she interrupted the performance. “I can’t do it again like last year. I’m sorry for swearing and sorry for starting again, can we please start it again? I’m sorry, I can’t mess this up for him. I’m sorry.”

The Hello singer was of course referring to her 2016 Grammys performance where she sang All I Ask and suffered similar audio issues during the ballad. She later told The Ellen DeGeneres Show that next time that happened, she’d start over. “I will tell them ‘Sorry, that’s not working for me.’ Otherwise… bye!”

Unfortunately it did happen again. But the singer re-started her tribute ending with the lyrics “I Miss You Baby” to a standing ovation, many with tears in their eyes. (We’re looking at you Chrissy Teigen, Rihanna, Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez.) Celebrities have tweeted their support:

 

Technical difficulties were also blamed for Metallica’s mic dropping out during their performance with Lady Gaga who ended up sharing her microphone.  

Adele went on to win Song Of The Year and addressed the performance:
