As it echoed across the frow, a corseted model emerged as a shipwrecked damsel in a quintessentially sultry <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/ludovic-de-saint-sernin-ann-demeulemeester-creative-director\/\">Ludovic de Saint Sernin<\/a>-designed look. Known for a deeply sensual and gloriously uninhibited approach to womenswear, de Saint Sernin&#8217;s foray into Haute Couture saw the designer find an unlikely muse.<\/p>\n<p>De Saint Sernin, the eighth guest designer to helm Gaultier\u2019s couture line since <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/the-king-of-couture-jean-paul-gaultier-is-calling-it-quits-after-50-years\/\">the designer\u2019s retirement<\/a> in 2020, navigated the waters with a reverence for history, while employing his own instincts for contemporary edge. Eager to tell stories through each look, this collection\u2014titled <em>Naufrage<\/em> (French for \u201cshipwreck\u201d)\u2014embraced nostalgia with seduction, and contrasts of texture and cuts. Aboard his fashion vessel, an all-star cast of sirens\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/exclusive-candice-swanepoel-on-how-to-get-insta-ready-in-minutes\/\">Candice Swanepoel<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/exclusive-paloma-elsesser-victorias-secret-voices-podcast\/\">Paloma Elsesser<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/rosie-huntington-whiteley-game-changers\/\">Rosie Huntington-Whiteley<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/alexconsani\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Consani<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/amelia-gray-hamlin-met-gala-dress-story\/\">Amelia Gray<\/a>, to name a few\u2014draped in rope-like pleated jersey voile, corseted gowns undone by eyelets and laces, and even tulle slip dresses studded with 50,000 brass pearls.<\/p>\n<p>De Saint Sernin held up Disney\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/halle-bailey-first-glance-little-mermaid\/\"><em>The Little Mermaid <\/em><\/a>as inspiration, but the collection\u2019s roots stretched far beyond fantasy. The nods to Gaultier\u2019s own archives were unmistakable: a reimagining of his famous boat hat look from 1997, corsetry that hugs the body like a second skin then juts out at the hips, unconventional, sexed-up tailoring, and a general penchant for nautical themes.<\/p>\n<p>With both figures finding common ground in subversive sensuality and glamour, ideas were merged seamlessly.\u00a0But there were new ideas, too, of course. Feathers given a waterlogged sheen, tartan print rendered in glittering crystals, and latex pressed with crocodile prints that showed up in coordinating sets and dresses.
