For Editorial Use Dane was a main cast member of Grey’s Anatomy from 2006 to 2012 as Mark Sloan, before returning as a guest in 2021, according to his Wikipedia biography<\/a>. He announced in April 2025 that he had been diagnosed with ALS, the progressive disease that attacks the nerve cells controlling muscles, as the ALS Association<\/a> explains. There is currently no cure.<\/span><\/p>\n Instead of retreating, he chose to talk about it, in interviews and in the book that now carries his voice, published nine months after his death.<\/span><\/p>\n In June 2025, he spoke publicly about the disease for the first time in an interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America, explaining that he had “one functioning arm.”<\/span><\/p>\n
