Lisa, one-quarter of the powerhouse K-pop group BLACKPINK, released her first-ever solo EP, <\/span>Press Play<\/span><\/i>, this week via her own label, LLOUD, in partnership with RCA Records. The release comes 18 months after the launch of her debut full-length album, <\/span>Alter Ego<\/span><\/i> back in 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSaWaDiKa\u201d opens the EP, followed by \u201cV12,\u201d \u201cCobra,\u201d \u201cTarantino,\u201d \u201cCut U Off,\u201d and \u201cSweat.\u201d The six tracks are heavy on energy, bass, and beat \u2013 blending trap with pop while showcasing Lisa\u2019s signature confident bars and catchy lyrics. “Tarantino” also builds in the bright twang of the phin, a traditional Thai string instrument.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The EP draws on other Thai influences, most notably in “SaWaDiKa\u201d, which takes its name from <\/span>sawatdee ka<\/span><\/i>, a formal Thai greeting women use to say \u2018hello\u2019. Released in early September as Press Play<\/em>\u2019s punchy lead single, it debuted at No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Lisa\u2019s highest-charting song on the chart to date.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From its opening single to the final track, <\/span>Press Play<\/span><\/i> traces Lisa\u2019s journey from her Thai roots to her evolution into a global pop star. As she explained on <\/span>The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/span><\/i>, \u201cEvery single song has their own character, their own vibe, and when we combine it together, it\u2019s like a movie. So you just press play,\u201d referencing the EP title and lyrics of \u201cTarantino\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The two tracks, \u201cSaWaDiKa\u201d and \u201cTarantino,\u201d also have their own high-powered music videos. \u201cSaWaDiKa,\u201d which has amassed more than 224 million YouTube views in just one month, follows Lisa across neighbourhoods and urban architectural spaces in her native Bangkok, Thailand, accompanied by a slick troupe of backup dancers. “Tarantino,” meanwhile, is exactly as cinematic as its name suggests, with Lisa taking on a Tarantino-esque fight scene from her hotel room to the kitchen, effortlessly dispatching chefs with a flick of her manicured hand.<\/span><\/p>\n
