The sprawling château where Taylor Swift filmed her iconic 2014 “Blank Space” music video has a new owner. Oheka Castle, one of America’s largest private residences, sold for $72 million at auction on October 27, 2026, marking a new chapter for the historic Long Island estate.

Famous for its grand staircases, French-inspired gardens, and celebrity connections, the property has spent more than a century attracting America’s wealthiest families. Now, following financial difficulties and foreclosure proceedings, its future is making headlines.

Why Taylor Swift’s Famous “Blank Space” Mansion Was Sold

Located in West Hills, Long Island, approximately an hour from Manhattan, Oheka Castle went under the hammer through Concierge Auctions after its ownership entity filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The 23-acre property, currently operating as a luxury hotel and wedding venue, attracted interest from buyers seeking a landmark hospitality property.

Despite the ownership change, couples with existing wedding reservations have some reassurance: the buyer must honor scheduled events through at least March 31, 2028.

Inside One of America’s Largest Mansions

Built between 1914 and 1919 for financier Otto Hermann Kahn, Oheka Castle was designed to rival the grandest European estates.

The French château-style mansion boasts approximately 127 rooms and more than 100,000 square feet of space, making it widely recognized as the second-largest private residence in the United States, behind North Carolina’s Biltmore Estate.

Construction reportedly cost $11 million at the time, an extraordinary fortune in the early 20th century.

During its glamorous heyday, the estate welcomed royalty, politicians, and Hollywood personalities.

But after Kahn’s death, the mansion gradually declined. It served several purposes, including as a military academy, before falling into disrepair.

Developer Gary Melius purchased the property in the 1980s and launched an ambitious, multimillion-dollar restoration that eventually transformed it into the luxury destination visitors recognize today.

How Taylor Swift Made Oheka Castle Famous Again

Long before Swift arrived, Oheka Castle had already earned a place in Hollywood history as an inspiration for Xanadu, the fictional mansion in Citizen Kane.

But its biggest modern pop culture moment came in 2014.

In the music video for “Blank Space,” Taylor Swift transformed the château into the setting for a glamorous, increasingly chaotic romance. Its sweeping staircases, ornate interiors, and manicured grounds provided the perfect backdrop for the singer’s unforgettable performance.

The video introduced Oheka Castle to millions of fans worldwide, turning the historic estate into a destination for Swifties.
