At its helm is Vicky Tsai, an entrepreneur who has turned her personal journey of healing and discovery into a global mission for change. Tsai\u2019s story is not just about beauty; it\u2019s about resilience, purpose, and a relentless commitment to making the world better, especially for women and girls.<\/p>\n<p>Her career arc took an unexpected turn in her early 30s. \u201cI had a decade of corporate work behind me,\u201d Tsai shares. \u201cOn paper, it was impressive, but inside, I felt unfulfilled. I realized that despite the glittering resume, it just didn\u2019t fit me.\u201d The breaking point came when Tsai faced severe acute dermatitis that left her face covered in painful blisters. \u201cI was pregnant and hooked on steroids for my skin, but nothing worked,\u201d she says. One day, she made a life-changing decision: \u201cI quit my job without a plan. I just said, \u2018I choose happiness.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This leap of faith led Tsai to Japan, where she encountered a simpler, gentler approach to skincare. She discovered blotting papers used by geishas and kabuki actors, known for their &#8220;awless skin. \u201cI met a geisha, and we spoke for hours. I was blown away by her presence, her artistry,\u201d Tsai recalls. \u201cUsing these rituals changed my skin in eight weeks, and it healed completely.\u201d Returning home, she couldn\u2019t find anything like the products she\u2019d encountered in Japan. This marked the beginning of Tatcha. \u201cWhat started as an Etsy-sized business grew into a company dedicated to healing skin and spirit. Japan taught me that beauty and life could be harmonious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since its founding, Tatcha has expanded beyond skincare, embodying Tsai\u2019s broader mission: empowering girls through education. From the beginning, a portion of Tatcha\u2019s revenue has gone to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roomtoread.org\/donate\/?gad_source=1&amp;gbraid=0AAAAA-REgvCynczb_BYHN56lVVdxamU8M&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiA34S7BhAtEiwACZzv4RYJYo6lQidEyepO8M62OzVx83AqLECrGQj3poucvw5vAn2X3j3UDhoCqW0QAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\">Room to Read<\/a>, a nonprofit focused on girls\u2019 education. \u201cWhen I launched Tatcha, my daughter was born the same day as our first blotting papers,\u201d Tsai says. \u201cShe\u2019s my inspiration, and my goal has always been to create a world where every girl has the chance to learn and thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To date, Tatcha has funded over 10 million days of school through Room to Read, which offers more than just academic support. \u201cThe organization also teaches life skills\u2014how to manage stress, prevent abuse, find role models, even financial literacy,\u201d Tsai explains. \u201cIt\u2019s so much more than reading and writing. It\u2019s about survival and self-worth.\u201d Tatcha\u2019s contributions go directly to Room to Read\u2019s Girls\u2019 Education Program, providing resources such as transportation, school supplies, uniforms, and mentorship through social mobilizers who guide girls in understanding their rights and life choices. This intentional support has helped Room to Read move closer to its goal of educating over 45 million children globally by 2025. Yet Tsai\u2019s success hasn\u2019t come without sacrifices. \u201cMy husband, Eric, and I went nine years without a salary and worked out of my mom\u2019s garage,\u201d she reveals. Today, Tatcha ranks in the top 1% of corporations, donating a percentage of revenue\u2014not profit\u2014to Room to Read. \u201cWe couldn\u2019t wait until we were profitable. Supporting these girls was too important,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>With an eye toward the future, Tsai is deeply inspired by her mentor, Erin Ganju, the former CEO of Room to Read: \u201cErin is just a few years older and came from a similar corporate background. She\u2019s been a confidante and a role model in navigating women\u2019s leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, Tatcha has introduced a new Brightening Collection that reimagines Vitamin C skincare to deliver firmer, brighter skin without the irritation often associated with traditional formulas. Developed by the Tatcha Institute in Tokyo, the collection features a time-release Vitamin C that stays stable and effective on the skin for 12 hours, with clinical studies showing significant improvements in skin brightness and firmness within a week.The collection includes the Brightening Serum and the Brightening Eye Cream, both available through Tatcha and Sephora and designed to provide fast, gentle results through key ingredients like Japanese plum, ferulic acid, and a Pro-Glutathione Antioxidant Booster.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what comes next, Tsai\u2019s vision is clear. \u201cThere\u2019s so much to tackle, and as a mother, I feel both hope and sadness for the world we\u2019re leaving our children,\u201d she admits. \u201cBut girls\u2019 education is the fulcrum for change. We have the tools to end illiteracy in our lifetime. I\u2019m willing to dedicate my life to it.\u201d Through Tatcha, Vicky Tsai reminds us that beauty is more than skin deep\u2014it\u2019s a force for change. \u201cHaving material goods isn\u2019t a flex,\u201d she says. \u201cBeing part of ending illiteracy, that\u2019s a flex. My purpose has always been to help women see their own power. Anyone can be a changemaker.
