Finding a friend is like finding a treasure.<\/strong> But how can you identify a true friendship?<\/p>\n

Friendship is not always rational; in fact, it\u2019s often almost entirely emotional.<\/strong> For instance, we might not know why we are friends with a particular person with whom we share little, yet we feel a strong affection for them.<\/p>\n

True friendship, especially if we consider that it endures over time and through difficulties, is based on mutual respect and affection, sharing, and being mentally present more than physically present.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In short, as with romantic relationships, there is often much more heart than head.<\/p>\n

However, recognizing a true friendship is easy. Here are some signs to determine if you are surrounded by true friends or if you need to find some new ones.<\/p>\n

How to Recognize a True Friendship<\/h1>\n

1. You Must Be Mentally Present<\/h2>\n

Beyond physical presence and seeing each other when possible, the most important aspect of a true friendship is mental presence.<\/p>\n

Being mentally present means knowing that if you call, they will be there.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It means having the awareness that if they can\u2019t answer, they will call you back and will care about what you need to tell them.<\/p>\n

It also means knowing that if something good or bad happens, they will want to share it with you.<\/p>\n

Knowing that someone is there for you will never make you feel alone because you\u2019ll know you can share both joys and sorrows.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. You Must Feel the Authenticity<\/h2>\n

In both good and bad times, what keeps relationships vibrant is authenticity.<\/p>\n

Being authentic doesn\u2019t mean being without filters.<\/strong> Some people confuse the two and make a mistake.<\/p>\n

If I care about you, I should tell you everything. No, that\u2019s wrong because it means not caring about the other person\u2019s feelings and not considering what they might be able to accept or not.<\/p>\n

One can be authentic with sensitivity,<\/strong> and can say things in the right way and at the right time.<\/p>\n

A true friend takes care of our feelings and respects our timing.<\/p>\n

3. There Should Be No Impositions<\/h2>\n

No impositions or punitive silence. Beware of people who stop talking to you after a choice you made<\/strong> because you didn\u2019t do what they said.<\/p>\n

They might justify it as “I\u2019m doing this for you”<\/strong> or “I\u2019m doing this for your own good,”<\/strong> but in reality, they just want to impose their own thoughts.<\/p>\n

Release any guilt you might feel for not meeting their expectations because you are not at fault.<\/p>\n

Life is yours,<\/strong> and if there is a true friendship, it should endure beyond any personal choice.<\/strong><\/p>\n
