This “divorce” from the Mountbatten-Windsors continues to capture headlines. Many tabloids claimed it happened in haste, with some even stating that Queen Elizabeth II was not informed of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s plans to leave. At the time, Prince Harry quickly denied these allegations. “The idea that I would have taken my grandmother by surprise was impossible. I have so much respect for her,”<\/em> he said. Time, it seems, may be proving him right.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth II’s Protective Instincts<\/h2>\n

A letter published last December contradicts rumors that the Sussexes were ostracized by the Crown. According to Express UK, Queen Elizabeth II considered it “imperative” that her grandson and Meghan Markle receive “effective” security after resigning from their royal duties. The Queen\u2019s top aide reported to a Home Office committee that ensuring their security was essential. Sir Edward Young communicated this to Mark Sedwill, then Cabinet Secretary. This followed the Sandringham Summit in January 2020, which was called to discuss the Sussexes’ departure arrangements.<\/p>\n

A Blow for Prince Harry<\/h2>\n

According to the Telegraph<\/em>, Sir Edward also argued in favor of maintaining Prince Harry’s “effective security.” He stated, \u201cGiven the Duke’s public profile due to his birth into the royal family, his military service, the Duchess’s independent profile, and the well-documented history of targeting of the Sussex family by extremists, it is imperative that the family continues to benefit from effective security.\u201d<\/em> These words were submitted to the High Court as evidence but were ultimately rejected.<\/p>\n
