From disgraced Olympic figure skater, Tonya Harding, to deranged comic book villain, Harley Quinn, Margot Robbie has transformed into some pretty memorable characters over the years.<\/p>\n

Now the 30-year-old actress<\/a> is set to take on the iconic role of the world’s most famous doll, Barbie. The upcoming live-action film will be directed by Greta Gerwig and produced in collaboration by Robbie’s own studio, LuckyChap. Gerwig, who was nominated for Best Director at the Oscars for 2017\u2019s Lady Bird<\/em> will also write the script along with Noah Baumbach.<\/p>\n

But don’t expect the film to be just a vapid pink treat. The movie is shaping up to be a more of a dystopia than a dream house and will provoke a “thoughtful conversation,\u201d according to its leading lady<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll we can say is whatever you\u2019re thinking, it\u2019s not that,\u201d Robbie said in an interview with \u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i>. “Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, \u2018Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is.’ But our goal is to be like, whatever you\u2019re thinking, we\u2019re going to give you something totally different \u2014 the thing you didn\u2019t know you wanted.”<\/p>\n

According to IMDB<\/em><\/a>, the film’s plot is said to center on a doll living in “Barbieland” who is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world. Robbie’s producing partner, Josey McNamara, also weighed in on the film’s expectations.<\/p>\n

“As Margot said, you think you know what the movie is with Margot as Barbie, but Greta and Noah have subverted it, and we can’t wait to get into that one,’ McNamara said.<\/p>\n

With her latest project, the Aussie beauty<\/a> remains behind the camera serving as a producer on the black comedy thriller, Promising Young Woman<\/em>. The film, which stars Carey Mulligan as traumatized woman who seeks out vengeance against those who have wronged her, is already garnering Oscar
