It’s considered difficult to pull off, tends to be polarizing, and doesn’t often get much of a look-in on the runway. That was until Daniel Lee turned up and made so-called ‘Bottega Green’ the industry’s latest obsession. Given its name because of the bold emerald hue found inside the brand’s shoeboxes, this particular shade popped up repeatedly at Bottega Veneta’s spring summer 21 runway show, which debuted publicly earlier this week.

The intimate theater where the show was staged was lit green, and the color cropped up regularly throughout the collection. The opening look featured a ‘Bottega Green’ structured skirt suit with matching mules, and elsewhere we saw green leather belted pouch bags (cue: Instagram melting down), chunky men’s sweaters with subtle green embroidery, and rubber-soled green slip-ons. Models even wore slicks of green eyeshadow.

Image: Getty

One avid Daniel Lee fan who was already embracing the color was Hailey Bieber, who showcased her love for the shade in an Instagram post. Bieber wore an oversized grey tracksuit and sneakers, jazzed-up with a green patent leather quilted vest and woven top handle handbag (the latter made by Bottega Veneta, adding to her ever-growing collection of the brand’s bags). “me in green” she succinctly captioned the shot.

While Bottega may have pioneered a renewed interest in the color, they’re far from the only brand using it. Back in October, Natacha Ramsay-Levi debuted her last collection for Chloé—a spring summer 21 show that featured unexpected pops of bold emerald in the form of covetable top-handle bags. That same season, the culty accessories label By Far released a new collection brimming with 90s style green totes and sandals. You know what they say, three’s a trend.

As for wearing the polarizing shade yourself? Follow Bieber’s suit by adding splashes of color to an otherwise-neutral ensemble. Or, if you’re adventurous, go whole hog and wear head-to-toe BV green—it’s the way Daniel Lee intended.

Image: Instagram @byfar_official

[17,16

How 'Bottega Green'
