Dakota Johnson is nothing if not classic in her approach to dressing, but she does enjoy a touch of the unexpected. Whether it’s a crisp white shirt and camel blazer with sleek leather pants or a timeless slip gown adorned in a crystal ‘webbing’ as a nod to her role in Madame Web<\/em><\/a>, she is adept at keeping up the intrigue with her style.<\/p>\n

But though she leans towards staples in her everyday wardrobe, even Johnson isn’t immune to the allure of a pop of red, this season’s most prolific colour trend.<\/p>\n

Photographed out and about in Rome, Italy (see photos here<\/a>), the actress wore a chic check trapeze coat over a white T-shirt and black denim in an ankle-grazing balloon silhouette. She accessorised the look with Aviator sunglasses and a GUCCI Jackie 1961 velvet shoulder bag. Then, to disrupt the neutral tones, she opted for a playful pair of ballet flats by Ala\u00efa in a bright, patent red hue, which complimented the subtle print of her outerwear.<\/p>\n

The actress was joined by her former collaborator, Alessandro Michele<\/a>, who looked casual in a tartan shirt, burgundy corduroy slacks, a Yankees cap, and a Prada belt bag. Though it’s not clear if Johnson and the former creative director of Gucci were talking shop or just catching up, both made the case for injecting a splash of colour into our outfits.<\/p>\n

From Prada<\/a> and Jil Sander to Balenciaga<\/a> and Acne Studios<\/a>, pops of scarlet, crimson, burgundy and beyond had an unmistakable presence across the Spring\/Summer 2024 and Autumn\/Winter 2024<\/a> runways. Particularly as we observe the shedding of ‘quiet luxury’<\/a>, it seems red may be coming for the long-held reign of grey<\/a>.<\/p>\n
