The sentiment of knowing clean sheets, a warm pillow and the comfort of familiar surroundings would soon be within reach. For Proenza Schouler, this was the sentiment that their <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/nyfw-proenza-schouler-ss24\/\">Fall\/Winter 2024 collection<\/a> evoked\u2014a presentation of 38 looks that marched towards the past and quelled our yearing for familiarity. (Of course, the sounds of jazz musician Alice Coltrane\u2019s \u201cGoing Home\u201d echoing over the runway helped draw this parallel.)<\/p>\n<p>This season, the brand\u2019s co-creative directors, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, stripped anything that could\u2019ve been interpreted as gratuitous or grandiose. Trinkets and frills\u2014like fashion\u2019s recent fascination with inflating bag sizes, encouraging one to profess their entire personality through<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=graziamagazine.com+bag+charms&amp;oq=graziamagazine.com+bag+&amp;gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBggAEEUYOzIGCAAQRRg7MgYIARBFGEAyBggCEEUYOTIGCAMQRRg8MgYIBBBFGDwyBggFEEUYPNIBCDM1NzZqMGo3qAIAsAIA&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\"> toting tchotchkes<\/a> and conflating simplicity with style\u2014are a thing of the present. Merely a byproduct of the age of social media. On the runway, they endeavoured\u2014and succeeded\u2014in returning to an age of refinement and precision.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_247085\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-247085\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-247085 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Proenza-Schouler-4.png\" alt=\"Proenza-Schouler\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1500\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-247085\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: Proenza Schouler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This began with pulling any prints and embroidery from their collection at the eleventh hour. As per W, Hernandez explained this modus operandi as: \u201cLet\u2019s take it all away.\u201d \u201cLet\u2019s make it about form and silhouette and length. We just wanted to reduce it to its purest form.\u201d This intentionally drew parallels to the halcyon days of the 90s, where designers like Helmut Lang and savants like Caroline Bessette Kennedy gravitated towards determined minimalism as an antithesis to 80s abundance. Similar to how maximalism reigned in the 2010s, the second decade of the brand is focused on conveying ideals of craftsmanship in their most rudimentary expression.<\/p>\n<p>This began with a singular navy pea coat that embodied this internal \u201cvibe shift\u201d. Styled with a soft-hugging maxi dress and modest black trainers, an age of scrupulous heirloom pieces was manifested. Intimacy was unveiled in two folds. The first was the skin-barring mesh collared shirts and turtleneck dresses that clung to the body or served as cerebral layering pieces. The second was the volume of woollen fabric, delicate lace and textured knitwear that stretched over models\u2019 bodies to create a cocoon of movement.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_247094\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-247094\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-247094 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Proenza-Schouler-13.png\" alt=\"Proenza-Schouler\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1500\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-247094\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: Proenza Schouler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Take note of the necklines this season\u2014whether through exaggerated pulls or concealed lapels, the label found room for experimentation. As a result, the brand argued that even the smallest of gestures can be the most theatrical. (A trompe l&#8217;oeil pair of denim jeans is further proof of this thesis.) And so the pendulum shifts, swaying back toward the other end of the spectrum to the side that favours the minimal. (And the decisive).
