Creating covetable accessories is to Daniel Lee what painting was to Picasso. For Bottega Veneta’s revered creative director, it’s an inherent, inescapable summons that sees everything that he touches set the standard in the category for seasons to come.<\/p>\n

Bags have been big business for the Italian house since Lee came on board, with notable hits such as The Pouch<\/a> and Padded Cassette Bag<\/a> generating wait lists across the globe.\u00a0And now, Bottega Veneta has declared the knit clutch to be next year’s bag du jour<\/em>, by way of its SS21 collection Salon 01<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Like The Pouch<\/a> before it, BV’s new knit clutches are soft and malleable in their construction, but with a casual-cool knit finish. The squishy fabric still sits easily under the wearer’s shoulder, leaving the sides of the bag to comfortably spill over either side of the arm. It’s ‘everything-but-the-kitchen-sink’ in function, but with a nonchalant ‘I didn’t even think about it’ aesthetic.<\/p>\n

But unlike The Pouch, Bottega Veneta’s new knit clutches come with a top-handle \u2013 perfect for those who prefer to keep a firm grip on their prized accessory. There’s also a whole host of new colors to satisfy every sartorial inclination, including sunny yellow (Pantone’s 2021 hue<\/a>, if you didn’t already know), hot pink, red and, of course, it wouldn’t be Bottega Veneta without a suite of minimalist classics \u2013 beige, black and cream.<\/p>\n

Images from the London show, which actually took place in October, have only just been released and it’s a cozy spectacle of chunky knit dresses<\/a>, that feel a little like cottagecore<\/a> on a crafty, colorful acid trip. Although knit clutches were a standout, there were plenty of other bags and shoes on show to inspire your next purchase \u2013 think buttery leather platform slides, strappy sandals and waist bags worn back-to-front.<\/p>\n
