Despite Vanessa Hudgens<\/a> and Austin Butler both happily in new relationships<\/a>, there\u2019s a sense of melancholy that hangs over the former couple\u2019s breakup<\/a>. The timing of their split coinciding with the zenith of Butler\u2019s career, especially after Hudgens and Butler had been together for nearly a decade, had piqued netizen\u2019s interest upon their estrangement in 2021.<\/p>\n

When compounded with the fact that Butler had relegated his former life partner to the role of \u201cfriend\u201d when explaining how her encouragement led him to land the role of Elvis in Baz Luhrmann\u2019s biopic, it appeared that there were no sparks left between the former flames.<\/p>\n

Now almost three years since their relationship first fractured, and on the eve of the release of his latest project, Dune 2<\/a>,<\/em> Butler has since acknowledged his wrongdoings in failing to mention Hudgens\u2019 advocacy in coaxing him to tackle his breakout role. \u201cOh, yeah, I learned a lesson with that one,\u201d the actor said in a recent profile regarding his failing to name the High School Musical<\/em> star in an actor\u2019s roundtable for The Hollywood Reporter.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

As you\u2019ll recall, Butler explained that a \u201cfriend\u201d of his, a person we now collectively know to be Hudgens, prompted him to take Elvis<\/em><\/a> seriously after hearing him sing along to the King of Rock\u2019s Christmas album.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never really sang in front of my friends or anything,\u201d Butler explained at the time. \u201cThat same friend was there when I was playing the piano and she said, \u2018I\u2019m serious, you\u2019ve got to figure out how to get the rights to a script and write something and do Elvis\u2019 life!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Even Colin Farrell was impressed by Hudgens\u2019 foresight, pressing Butler for more details on who this anonymous supporter was. But rather than giving Hudgens the gratitude she deserved, Butler kept her name out of his press cycle\u2026until now.<\/p>\n
