Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Hugh Grant, Olivia Colman and Rowan Atkinson have descended on London\u2019s Royal Festival Hall for the world premiere of their film Wonka<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old star, in a pink, plush, velvet suit and custom necklace by Cartier,<\/a> was all smiles for the media and fans\u2014a visual testament to his lovely demeanour, and one cemented by his co-stars.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a stroke of genius having [Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet] as the early Wonka. He\u2019s magical and gentle, he\u2019s extraordinary on screen,\u201d Chalamet\u2019s costar Olivia Colman told the Associated Press<\/em>.<\/a> \u201cAnd he\u2019s that lovely, gentle presence. He\u2019s almost like a human Paddington!\u201d<\/p>\n

Directed by Paul King, Chalamet stars as Willy Wonka<\/a>, the beloved chocolate-loving character at the centre of Roald Dahl\u2019s best-selling book\u00a0Charlie & The Chocolate Factory<\/em>. This film delves into the wondrous story of how the world\u2019s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.<\/p>\n

Also starring bumbling Englishmen Hugh Grant<\/a>\u00a0and Rohan Atkinson, the big screen fantastical spectacle\u2014filled to the brim with colour and music and magic\u2014realises Chalamet\u2019s incredible breadth as an actor (he\u2019s really funny!) as he takes on the role of the relentlessly enthusiastic Wonka determined to change the world one chocolate at a time. King recently revealed to Rolling Stone<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>that, after seeing his viral high school performances on YouTube, Chalamet did not have to audition for the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a straight offer because he\u2019s great and he was the only person in my mind who could do it,\u201d King said. \u201cBut because he\u2019s Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet and his life is so absurd, his high school musical performances are on YouTube and have hundreds of thousands of views. So I knew from stanning for Timmy Chalamet that he could sing and dance really well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wonka<\/em> will release into Australian cinemas on December 14.<\/span><\/p>\n
