When you’re a billionaire, it’s hard to imagine that you’d have much competition when shopping. But as Kim Kardashian found out, she’s not the only couture enthusiast with deep pockets. Lauren S\u00e1nchez, fianc\u00e9e of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, revealed that she and the Skims mogul were up against each other at a recent auction.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Vogue<\/em><\/a>, S\u00e1nchez, 53, whose fianc\u00e9e is the third wealthiest person in the world with a net worth of more than $253 billion, shared that she and Kardashian, worth $2.6 billion<\/a> herself, went head to head for a custom Balenciaga<\/a> couture gown.<\/p>\n

At a dinner held by the Kering<\/a> Foundation during New York Fashion Week, S\u00e1nchez found herself embroiled in a bidding war with her pal, but though neither backed down, the two kept things friendly. \u201cI\u2019m a big auction girl,\u201d said Kardashian of the experience, \u201cand my strategy was to come in last minute.\u201d When she realised her rival was S\u00e1nchez, Kardashian recalled yelling across the room: \u201cWe\u2019ll share it!”<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought, you wear it once, I\u2019ll wear it once, it\u2019ll be so cute!\u201d said Kardashian. Instead, to make everyone a winner, the luxury group offered to make two dresses, with both women paying roughly $313,000 (AUD) and travelling to Paris together for the custom fitting. Yes, you read that right.<\/p>\n

\u201cLauren and I are always sending DMs building each other up,\u201d Kardashian said of the pair’s unlikely bond. \u201cEvery time there\u2019s a look that we like, she\u2019ll say, \u2018WOW,\u2019 or, \u2018OMG, you look amazing.\u2019 She\u2019s such a girl\u2019s girl.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kardashian also attended\u00a0S\u00e1nchez and Bezos’ engagement party after the latter proposed earlier this year. The pink diamond ring is estimated to be worth around $3.1 million, and likely sits somewhere between 15 and 20 carats.<\/p>\n
