Ohana means family, and family means that a comprehensive study of the King of Rock\u2019n\u2019Roll, Elvis Presley, is best undertaken by viewing Disney\u2019s 2002 cartoon Lilo & Stitch.<\/em> Well, that is according to Jacob Elordi.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old Australian actor has recently donned Presley\u2019s gilded jumpsuits and signature pompadour greaser hairstyle for his role as Elvis in Sofia Coppola\u2019s latest film<\/a> Pricilla<\/em>. Unlike Baz Luhrmann’s recent Elvis<\/em> biopic, Coppola applies her trademark ethereal lens to Priscilla Presley\u2019s story.<\/a><\/p>\n

The film chronicles her life from her early years as a Beaulieu military brat to being swept into the flurry of fame through her romance with the rock deity. One that Coppola and Presley herself implies wasn\u2019t the picture-perfect relationship it was touted to be. But we digress.<\/p>\n

With Elordi making his theatrical motion picture debut<\/a> with Priscilla<\/em>, fans of the burgeoning Hollywood heavyweight were curious to see how his portrayal stacked up against his ex-girlfriend<\/a> Kaia Geber\u2019s current boyfriend, Austin Butler.<\/a><\/p>\n

Butler, who received an Oscar nomination<\/a> for the role, famously hired a plethora of acting and accent coaches to perfect his performance, fully immersing himself in Presley\u2019s life and even going so far as to talk in his accent for ever a year<\/a>. Elordi\u2019s prep? Watching Lilo & Stitch<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Elordi revealed that the first time he ever heard Presley\u2019s music was through the animated film’s soundtrack.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrowing up, were you an Elvis fan?\u201d questioned Fallon. \u201cNo,\u201d replied Elordi. \u201cThe most I knew of Elvis was in Lilo & Stitch<\/em>\u2026 which is a lot\u201d, he continued.<\/p>\n

As a fellow Australian who grew up in the same generation as Elordi, I echo this sentiment. Lilo & Stitch<\/em> had a profound impact on late-90s babies.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure what was going on in the writer’s room when pitching Elvis\u2019 music as the sole sonic theme for the cartoon. Still, the film certainly did introduce the King to a group of children who were otherwise obsessed with Nikki Webster\u2019s \u201cStrawberry Kisses\u201d.<\/p>\n

Or, more aptly, The Veronicas, considering Elordi\u2019s Brisbane upbringing.<\/p>\n

Either way, it’s safe to say the creation of Lilo & Stitch<\/em> is a potential butterfly effect. Without it, who knows who would\u2019ve starred as Elvis in Priscilla<\/em>?<\/p>\n
