Yet, it was the <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/fashion-week-2023\/\">Spring\/Summer 2024 season<\/a> that saw the house slightly eschew this tradition by focusing on a <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/for-fall-winter-23-max-mara-ignites-an-age-of-female-power\/\">collective of galvanising luminaries, rather than the individual. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">For Max Mara\u2019s recent <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/max-mara-ss24-livestream\/\">Milan Fashion Week show<\/a>, Griffiths steered away from the bourgeois rebel or sartorial intellectual, looking to the might of the everyday woman. Though the quotidian uniforms worn by mundane metropolitans are a perennial source of inspiration for many designers, Griffiths instead turned his attention to the common English woman of the 1940s, who when asked by their government, took up a call to arms and created the Women\u2019s Land Army to help fight axis forces through agricultural measures in World War II.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_239770\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-239770\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignfull -width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignfull-width size-full wp-image-239770\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Max-Mara-S24-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1536\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-239770\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MILAN, ITALY &#8211; SEPTEMBER 21: A model walks the runway at the Max Mara fashion show during the Milan Fashion Week Womenswear Spring\/Summer 2024 on September 21, 2023 in Milan, Italy. Credit: Supplied<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cEnglish women, from the country and the city, from all social classes, joined up to work the land to shoulder and nourish the nation,\u201d wrote Max Mara in a press release, highlighting the innately utilitarian undertone of a collection spurred by <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/cate-blanchett-chooses-understated-elegance-for-the-critics-choice-awards\/\">astute measures and deft restraint.<\/a> Amongst this group of military might, Max Mara casts Vita Sackville-West\u2014author of a non-fiction collective biography on the Women\u2019s Land Army and friend of Virginia Woolf (their sapphic relationship served as the inspiration for <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/emma-corrin-orlando-play\/\">Woolf\u2019s prolific queer novel <em>Orlando: A Biography<\/em><\/a>)\u2014as the main character.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The mood board oscillates between first-hand images taken by women in the field\u2014though excludes the pertinent image of the late Queen Elizabeth II as a mechanic in the Auxiliary Territorial Service\u2014pastoral florals and rather randomly, a photo of Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Here, the <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/articles\/weekend-max-mara-arthur-arbesser\/\">idea of a \u2018uniform\u2019 is deconstructed and reassembled through a modern vantage.<\/a><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_239776\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-239776\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignfull -width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignfull-width size-full wp-image-239776\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/MAX-MARA-SS-2024-MOODBARD.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1449\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-239776\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Max Mara Spring\/Summer 2024 collection mood board. Credit: Supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\">Guided by codes of heritage army dress, Max Mara proposes practical regimentals for the contemporary woman; a denim apron recontextualised as a day dress,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>greaser-style dungarees cinched with belts and layered a top of oversized shirting, carpenter outerwear tucked into battlefield midi skirts. Tough and urban, ready to face battle. The colour palette ranged from rich army greens to sweat pea pinks and sandy neutrals, with pockets galore to store the moments from your travels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Despite its vintage connotations, the collection didn\u2019t feel contrived or banal. Rather, Max Mara presented an anthology in fashion fundamentals, colouring the tailored blazer and suede shorts with a trace of a workwear redux. Pieces that might&#8217;ve once been approved for labour made languid and leisurely.
