They say all is fair in love and war, but after one New Yorker\u2019s nightmare-fulled dating disaster<\/a> has gone viral, it\u2019s apparent that a clause be added to that adage. Because when it comes to matters of the heart, Maison Margiela’s Tabi<\/a> shoes should be left out of the bedroom. Rather, behind a six-inch steel vault kept under lock and key and away from sticky fingers. Break our hearts, but do not come from our $1,000 shoes.<\/p>\n

This story begins, like any romance should, with a simple connection. Manhattan-based influencer Alexis Doug\u00e9 (who goes by the handle @nextlevellexus) matched with someone on Tinder\u2014who (from his profile) is a 5\u201910, 23-year-old named Joshua. Without abusing the metaphor too much, they got off on the right foot, seeing each other in SoHo in real life before chatting over the app.<\/p>\n

On their second date, the Tinder swindler came over to Doug\u00e9\u2019s apartment. As it transpired, Joshua had ulterior motives, leaving their date with more than he came for: her Mary-Jane Tabis. As one user wrote in the comment section of Doug\u00e9\u2019s now-viral video, \u201cFashion guys<\/a> are sinister\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNew York fashion girlies beware, this man is out here on Tinder and Hinge and he will steal from you,\u201d Doug\u00e9 started her video. \u201cHe seems like a nice guy and someone I would just probably hang out with for a little fling,\u201d she continued, sharing screenshots of his dating profile in the process.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was pretty persistent about seeing me again and hanging. So, fast forward he comes over and we sleep together. Before we slept together we were chatting about fashion and how he really wants Tabis.\u201d The first red flag.<\/p>\n

The second red flag came the morning after their hook-up, with Joshua hoping to show her a Spotify playlist that he thought she\u2019d like (it wasn\u2019t the Pink Panther <\/i>theme, but it should\u2019ve been). Doug\u00e9 handed Joshua her phone as he didn\u2019t have the app. Hours pass, and her Mary Janes have vanished. Missing in action. Nowhere to be seen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI looked high and low and I can\u2019t find them anywhere, and said \u2018OK, that\u2019s fine I\u2019m not going to be accusatory\u2019, I just wanted to see if he knew where I put them,\u201d Doug\u00e9 continued. \u201cI go on Tinder to message him\u2026 unmatched, gone and I\u2019m like \u2018Oh no, this b**** stole my shoes.\u201d Just like her Tabis, Joshua\u2019s phone number was missing from her life too.<\/p>\n
