(Photo by Frazer Harrison\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:245\">The 5th annual AAFCA TV Honors awards ceremony was held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at\u00a0Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica, CA.\u00a0The event, which recognizes <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/venice-film-festival-best-looks-red-carpet\/\">outstanding work in the television industry<\/a>, was hosted by AAFCA President and Co-Founder Gil Robertson.<\/p>\n<h4 data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:245\">Notable Winners:<\/h4>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"7:1-7:335\"><em>Abbott Elementary<\/em> was the big winner of the 2023 AAFCA TV Honors, taking home the awards for Best TV Comedy and Best TV Writing <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/j-crew-quinta-brunson-diane-keaton-spring-campaign\/\">for star Quinta Brunson<\/a>. The show, which follows a group of teachers at an underfunded public school in Philadelphia, has been praised for its humor, heart, and positive representation of Black teachers.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"9:1-9:321\"><em>P-Valley<\/em> was another big winner, taking home the awards for Best TV Drama, Best Ensemble, and Best TV Acting (Male) for J. Alphonse Nicholson and Nicco Annan. The show, which follows the lives of the dancers at a strip club in the Mississippi Delta, has been praised for its raw and unflinching portrayal of sex work.<\/p>\n<h4 data-sourcepos=\"11:1-11:31\">Other Notable Winners:<\/h4>\n<ul data-sourcepos=\"13:1-18:0\">\n<li data-sourcepos=\"13:1-13:60\">Niecy Nash-Betts for Best TV Acting (Female) for <em>Dahmer<\/em><\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"14:1-14:54\">Jessica Williams for Breakout Star for <em>Shrinking<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Mary Lou Belli, Debbie Allen, Tasha Smith, Henry Chan, Jordan E. Cooper, Kelly Park for Best Directing for <em>The Ms. Pat Show!<\/em><\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"15:1-15:39\"><em>1619 Project<\/em> for Best Documentary<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"16:1-16:58\"><em>The Best Man: The Final Chapters<\/em> for Best Limited Series<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"17:1-18:0\"><em>Shooting Stars<\/em> for Best TV Movie<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"17:1-18:0\"><em>Mo<\/em> for Best New Show<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"19:1-19:180\">The AAFCA TV Honors also presented several special awards, including the We See You Award to <a href=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/articles\/jennifer-hudson-is-an-egot-winner\/\">Jennifer Hudson<\/a>, the Legacy Award to Delroy Lindo, and the Legend Award to Marla Gibbs.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"30:1-30:246\"><a href=\"https:\/\/aafca.com\/aafca-tv-honors-3\/\" target=\"_blank\">The 2023 AAFCA TV Honors<\/a>\u00a0awards ceremony was a memorable event that celebrated the power of Black television.
