The ballet flat<\/a> has long maintained its status as an essential wardrobe staple<\/a> and yesterday, Katie Holmes<\/a>\u00a0took the slippers for a spin<\/a> on the red carpet for none other than\u2026 the ballet.<\/p>\n

The actress stepped out at the 2023 American Ballet Theater<\/a>\u2019s summer season opening night performance of Like Water for Chocolate<\/em> at the Metropolitan Opera House and the annual June Gala at Lincoln Center in New York City on Thursday evening wearing\u00a0a black distressed knit Chlo\u00e9 dress<\/a> from the Fall\/Winter 2023 ready-to-wear collection<\/a>. It featured a plunging scoop neckline and a floor-length hem with sheer sections where the knitting was more deconstructed, like across her torso.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Batman Begins<\/em> actress<\/a> straightened her mid-length brunette tresses, styled parted down the middle, and kept her makeup minimal, with a bronzed glow and a soft smokey eye.<\/p>\n

Holmes<\/a> accessorized with a black leather envelope bag, her signature nose ring and two layered gold necklaces \u2014 one, a shorter dainty bar necklace and the other, a longer gold medallion.<\/p>\n

But it was her footwear of choice that stole the show. Thanks to the \u201cindie sleaze\u201d style resurgence and the satin ballet-slippers from Miu Miu<\/a>\u2019s Fall\/Winter 2022 collection, the classic footwear has been having a moment which went viral with the hit fashion craze known as balletcore.<\/p>\n

Holmes<\/a> chose a glossy black leather Miu Miu<\/a> pair for the evening tied with a dainty bow and topped with a riveted buckle strap across the top of her foot. She previously wore the It-shoe<\/a> to the Theater World Awards in New York on June 5 and was photographed in the streets of New York City\u2019s NoHo neighborhood wearing the shoes back in May.<\/p>\n

Her date for the evening was her mother, Kathleen A. Stothers-Holmes, who wore a marigold and blue paisley-printed Ulla Johnson dress and matched her daughter with her footwear. Stothers-Holmes sported a pair of black leather ballet flats with two criss-crossing strings across the top.<\/p>\n

The Wanderers<\/em> star<\/a> took to her Instagram Stories<\/a> to commemorate the night and express her gratitude. \u201cWe had such a wonderful night celebrating @abtofficial<\/a> Thank you @mcarfrae<\/a> and @jwattiker<\/a> for our annual night at the ballet!!! I love you mom,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

The evening\u2019s champagne reception and black-tie dinner were also attended by Mick Jagger<\/a>, Julianne Hough<\/a>, Misty Copeland<\/a>, Elizabeth Sulcer<\/a>, Candace Bushnell<\/a>, Prabal Gurang<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n
