When Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth\u2019s marriage and decade-long relationship initially broke down in mid-2019, things got messy fast. As Hemsworth jetted back to his family in Byron Bay, Australia, Cyrus moved on with friend Caitlin Carter and then Australian musician Cody Simpson. Rumors circulated about the cause of the separation, including that Hemsworth\u2019s partying was to blame and that Cyrus had cheated, which she\u2019s denied.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, a year on, Hemsworth is happy in love with his new girlfriend, model Gabriella Brooks, and Cyrus is newly single and preparing to drop her new album, Plastic Hearts.<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on the Howard Stern show<\/em>, Cyrus confirmed that the first single from the album, \u2018WTF Do I Know?\u2019, is about her actor ex-husband, saying the line “I don’t even miss you,” was “at that minute, [about Hemsworth].”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Sometimes you miss people more than others, and sometimes, things get easier. Time kind of heals all, but that was at a time where I felt really strong. And then somedays I don\u2019t,\u201d she explained. <\/span><\/p>\n

Cyrus then went on to elaborate about her former relationship and the reason she and Hemsworth decided to tie the knot in 2018, saying that if it wasn\u2019t for losing their home in the Malibu fires, they likely never would have gotten married.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“We were together since 16,” Cyrus said. “Our house burned down. We had been like, engaged\u2014I don’t know if we really ever thought we were actually going to get married, but when we lost our house in Malibu\u2014which if you listen to my voice pre- and post-fire, they\u2019re very different so that trauma really affected my voice. And I was actually in South Africa, so I couldn\u2019t come home, and like, my animals were tied to a post at the beach. I lost everything. I had polaroids of Elvis, like front row, passed on from\u2014I got a couple grandmas to give me their Elvis polaroids. I always became friends with my friends’ grandmas so I could get the goods from the artists I love.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“I had so much and it was all gone, every song I had ever written was in that house,” she continued. “Every photograph of me that my parents had given to me, all my scripts, I lost everything. And so in trying to put that back together, instead of going, ‘Oh, nature kind of did something I couldn\u2019t do for myself; it forced me to let go,’ I ran toward the fire. Which is not abnormal, a lot of animals do this and end up dying, like deers run into the forest. You\u2019re attracted to that heat and me being an intense person and not wanting to sit with it, and not wanting to go, you know, ‘What could be purposeful about this?’ I just clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him. And I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will.”<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the reason for their separation, Cyrus said that behind the scenes, the two had a lot of issues. “There was too much conflict,” she said. She added, “When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Back home in Australia, Hemsworth has apparently been made aware of the interview,\u00a0 but Cyrus\u2019 words don\u2019t bother him – mostly because he\u2019s so happy with Brooks. “Liam Hemsworth isn’t upset by the recent interview Miley did where she says there was too much conflict in their marriage,” a source told <\/span>Entertainment Tonight.<\/span><\/i><\/a> “Liam was very hurt when they initially broke up, but he has moved on now and is happy with Gabriella. He’s very traditional and Gabriella shares the same values as him and gets along with his family.
