Hollywood is really giving the millennials their childhood dreams served up on a platter this year. Not only do we have the Barbie<\/em> movie<\/a> debuting in a few months, and, therefore, another year of millennial pink rebranded as Barbiecore, but the live-action remake of the Little Mermaid,<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>too.<\/p>\n

Last night, the film’s star Halle Bailey<\/a>, who plays Princess Ariel, appeared on the red carpet for its premiere, perfectly dressed for the underwater-themed occasion<\/a> in a molten blue gown from Valdrin Sahiti.<\/p>\n

Not only did the strapless dress nod to the film through its colorway and water-look shine, but it featured a plunging neckline framed by two dramatically ruffled bustier panels that resembled seashells.<\/p>\n

To keep the attention on her gown, Bailey accessorized minimally, opting for a pair of large diamond earrings and matching diamond rings and leaving her neck bare. She added blue eyeshadow and wore a matching blue, shimmering manicure.<\/p>\n

Prior to the Little Mermaid’<\/em>s press tour kicking off \u2014 and, likely, a lot more mermaid-themed outfits soon to be worn by Bailey \u2014 the\u00a0 mermaidcore<\/a> trend (yes, now all trends have “core” at the end) had already been simmering.<\/p>\n

First, Dua Lipa was confirmed to be starring as a mermaid<\/a> in the aforementioned Barbie<\/em> film, before Hailey Bieber posed on a beach with a sand-built mermaid tail<\/a> to promote her new Rhode collection.<\/p>\n

And if you cast your minds back to the Met Gala’s 2019 red carpet, you’ll remember a seemingly dripping-wet Kim Kardashian<\/a> wearing a skintight dress by Thierry Mugler that was\u00a0designed to\u00a0appear as if she had just stepped out of the ocean.<\/p>\n

Now with Bailey, our real-life Ariel, taking the trend to the red carpet, we’d say it won’t be long before we’re all wearing fishtails \u2014 okay, maybe just water-look fabrics \u2014 to party.<\/p>\n
