\nFor those who had feared that the 2023 Met Gala<\/a>, themed “In Honor of Karl” to align with the Costume Institute’s exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” would turn into a cosplay (or should we say karlsplay) of the late-designers work, allow us to direct your attention to Cardi B.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the Grammy Award-winning musician and bona fide style savant<\/a> proved that “honor” would be the optimal word in regard to attendees sartorial choices \u2014 and one that would require a deft touch.<\/p>\n

That’s why her Lagerfeld-inspired custom gown from designer Chen Peng was so impactful, literally shutting down the carpet in her Karl-approved black-and-white ball gown. It wasn’t a Lagerfeld lookalike, but a Lagerfeld love letter.<\/p>\n

Tearing up the beige carpet, Cardi’s look was emblematic of the late-designers own personal wardrobe. Lagerfeld rarely deviated from his sartorial staples, which included a crisp white shirt with some sort of exaggerated collar, a form of blazer (typically dark toned) and a statement-making tie.<\/p>\n

Here, Cardi checked all the boxes and more by embodying Lagerfeld’s penchant for Camellia rosettes \u2014 a style he’s synonymous with thanks to his vast helm at Chanel saw him gravitate towards this motif. Cardi’s look was completed with a billowing skirt embroidered with the style.<\/p>\n

Of course, the most apparent tribute came in the form of Cardi’s powder-white beehive look. Lagerfeld’s classic white ponytail was his signature beauty look and clearly his most impactful contribution to the world of hair and makeup.<\/p>\n

Cardi’s modish interpretation proves once again of the timelessness of Lagerfeld’s work and the boundless impact of his legacy.<\/p>\n
