The new exhibition <em>Church Halls and Broken Biscuits\u00a0<\/em>breaks down the &#8220;12 steps to recovery&#8221; mindset through depictions featuring beloved childhood cartoon characters.\u00a0<em>Sesame Street<\/em>\u2019s Cookie Monster attends a meeting for overeaters, Bert and Ernie obsess over adult content and <em>Winnie the Pooh<\/em>\u2019s Eeyore and Pooh Bear reenact a therapy session.<\/p>\n<p>Created by recovered addicts-turned-artists, DJ Fat Tony (whose real name is Tony Marnoch) and Opake (whose real name is Ed Worley) celebrate their recovery through subversive and provocative art in the exhibition, which will will raise funds to help others find their own path in overcoming addition.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75819\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75819\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-75819 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/04\/Dopamine-Pleas.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75819\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Dopamine Pleas&#8221; of the &#8216;Church Halls and Broken Biscuits\u2019 exhibition by DJ Fat Tony and Opake<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI hated myself and life and all I had to look forward to was death,\u201d said DJ Fat Tony. \u201cThis exhibition celebrates 16 years clean and sober, and my love of life. If we can save one person\u2019s life through this exhibition then it\u2019s all worthwhile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will feature a specially curated \u201chero\u201d piece of art to be shared on social media before it will be sold at a closed silent suction. The funds raised will enable treatment for a number of struggling addicts at a UK rehabilitation center, facilitated by the UK\u2019s leading and longest established residential treatment center, Street Scene.<\/p>\n<p>Other pieces on display include\u00a010 illustrations with an &#8220;early recovery&#8221; theme. There&#8217;s a child praying over a McDonald\u2019s hamburger and a child taking a selfie while clutching a Balenciaga teddy bear, all tapping into depictions of self-sabotage.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75818\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75818\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-75818 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/graziamagazine.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/04\/Winnie-the-Pooh.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"1916\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75818\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8216;Church Halls and Broken Biscuits\u2019 exhibition by DJ Fat Tony and Opake<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Opake is now five years clean and the father of two young children. He&#8217;s gained an international reputation for his graffiti-style pop art, often featuring recognizable cartoon characters in his work, and offered some inspiring words ahead of the exhibit. \u201cAddiction isn\u2019t a hindrance, it\u2019s a gift \u2013 you just have to learn how to use it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The show kicked off on Wednesday, April 26 and will be open at
