Over the weekend, Dua Lipa<\/a> staged an ambitious, glorious, totally OTT livestream event to promote her new(-ish) second album, Future Nostalgia<\/em>. For those desperately missing the sweaty, pulsing heave of a dancefloor or the messy, loud chaos of a live concert, Studio2054,<\/em> as the event was called, is for you. The concert smattered live performances of tracks from the new album with a stunning rotation of cameos by the likes of Elton John, Kylie Minogue, and Miley Cyrus. In short? It was a perfect dose of escapism, especially for those who, like Dua Lipa, are in the UK, riding out a second lockdown.<\/p>\n

Among the standout moments\u2014and there were many\u2014was the appearance of one FKA Twigs<\/a>, who stole the show with the debut of the pair’s new collaborative track,\u00a0Why Don’t You Love Me?<\/em> In classic FKA Twigs form, the performance featured an elaborate pole-dancing routine, which the singer performed while wearing thigh-high boots with roller blades attached. The level of skill was, as always, mindblowing. Poledancing in rollerskates? Your fave could never.<\/p>\n

Among the other highlights from Studio2054<\/em>? Miley Cyrus’ surprise cameo\u2014she joined Lipa virtually from Los Angeles for a rendition of their newly-released single, ‘Prisoner’\u2014and Kylie Minogue performing a duet of the track ‘Real Groove.’ Or was it Elton John singing a live rendition of ‘Rocket Man’ via projector? It’s really hard to say…<\/p>\n

Another obvious talking point was Dua’s wardrobe. Mugler’s penchant for the theatrical and dramatic came in handy when Lipa wore a custom sheer catsuit, covered in hand-sewn crystals. The bespoke design, created by creative director Casey Cadwallader, made the singer look like a very chic chandelier. Elsewhere we saw custom Versace\u2014the same embellished scalloped bra detail that featured in the dress Dua wore to the American Music Awards<\/a> last week\u2014custom Attico, and custom Alexander Wang. All in all, it was a visual, audio, and sartorial feast more than worthy of the famous 70s club Lipa was paying homage to.<\/p>\n
