Academy Award winning actress,<\/a> founder of lifestyle and wellness brand Goop<\/em><\/a>, and lover of rectal ozone therapy<\/a> Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a> is on trial for colliding with a man on the beginner ski run at Deer Valley Resort<\/a> in Utah in February 2016.<\/p>\n

Paltrow, 50, is being sued for a minimum of $300,000 by retired optometrist Terry Sanderson, 76, who says the actress \u201crecklessly\u201d crashed into him while skiing \u2014 a collision he says caused him severe brain injuries and has thus affected his quality of life. Paltrow has denied the claim and is counter-suing Sanderson for $1 plus legal fees, alleging it was him who crashed into her.<\/p>\n

In the first two days of the trial, Sanderson\u2019s attorneys and expert medical witnesses have attributed his injuries to likely being caused by someone crashing into him from behind, and then landing on top of him.<\/p>\n

Sanderson was left with a concussion and four broken ribs. He says Paltrow continued to ski down the slope.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rib fractures certainly corroborate that there was enough force to cause a head injury,\u201d testified radiologist Dr. Wendell Gibby.<\/p>\n

Conversely, Paltrow\u2019s team \u2014 who are yet to call witnesses \u2014 will argue that Sanderson\u2019s decline has followed a normal course of aging.<\/p>\n

Sanderson\u2019s daughter, Polly Sanderson-Grasham, took the stand overnight where she described her father as a \u201cfun-loving, gregarious\u201d man who was also an experienced skier. She said her father\u2019s mental decline post the accident was most obvious to her at his granddaughter\u2019s graduation which took place three months post the collision.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a moment when I almost expected drool to come out of his mouth,\u201d she said. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t engaged with anyone \u2026 that was my first slap in the face that something is terribly wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s [now] easily frustrated, he gets agitated, angry \u2014 I didn\u2019t have memory of him being an angry person, but he\u2019s got a pretty short fuse these days,\u201d she continued. \u201cI think he\u2019s just a little more cautious, not as confident \u2014 he\u2019s in a really negative place and that\u2019s hard for me as his daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanderson\u2019s attorney\u2019s hope they can convince jurors \u2014 four men and six women \u2014 that their client\u2019s life-altering injuries were caused by the actresses ignorance. Paltrow\u2019s husband Brad Falchuk<\/a>, and her children, Apple<\/a> and Moses, will take the stand.<\/p>\n
