The cast of the sixth and final season of the Emmy Award-winning Netflix series The Crown<\/em><\/a> has been photographed on set \u2014 and we\u2019re getting our first glimpse of the new Kate Middleton<\/a> and Prince William<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chronicling the epic saga of the British royal family, the forthcoming season will follow the early days of the Prince and Princess of Wales\u2019s love story. The couple met while studying at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, circa 2001, before beginning to date in 2003. Portrayed by Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy, the behind-the-scenes shots capture the actors filming at the college \u2014 and they draw an uncanny resemblance to the pair of young royals.<\/p>\n

The show is currently in production after filming was halted in September following the death of\u00a0Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>\u00a0out of respect for the late monarch. \u201cAs a mark of respect, filming on The Crown<\/em> was suspended today,\u201d Netflix said in a statement acquired by the\u00a0Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>\u00a0at the time. \u201cFilming will also be suspended on the day of Her Majesty the Queen\u2019s funeral.\u201d<\/p>\n

That same month, the streamer announced\u00a0The Crown<\/em><\/a>\u00a0had found their\u00a0Prince William and Kate Middleton<\/a>\u00a0for the series\u2019 sixth season. According to\u00a0Deadline<\/em><\/a>, producers casted two actors to play William throughout time periods. Rufus Kampa will assume the role of Prince William at age 15 \u2014 the age of the royal when his mother Princess Diana<\/a> died in a tragic car accident.<\/p>\n

Kampa will be replaced later in the season by McVey, who will portray the former Duke of Cambridge in his late teen and early adult years, during his courtship with a young Kate Middleton, set to be played by Bellamy.<\/p>\n

The Queen was being previously portrayed by Claire Foy in the first two seasons, and Olivia Colman in seasons 3 and 4. Next,\u00a0Harry Potter<\/em>\u00a0actress Imelda Staunton played Queen Elizabeth in the series\u2019 fifth season and will continue in season 6.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have loved watching\u00a0The Crown<\/em>\u00a0from the very start,\u201d said Staunton in a\u00a0statement<\/a>. \u201cAs an actor it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan\u2019s scripts. I am genuinely honored to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking\u00a0The Crown<\/em>\u00a0to its conclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n

The series introduced a young\u00a0Lady Diana<\/a>\u00a0in season 4, with\u00a0Emma Corrin<\/a>\u00a0starring as the \u201cPeople\u2019s Princess\u201d\u00a0opposite Josh O\u2019 Connor\u2019s Prince Charles.\u00a0Elizabeth Debicki<\/a>\u00a0took the reins as\u00a0Princess Diana<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0seasons 5<\/a>\u00a0and will continue for 6, with Dominic West as Prince Charles.<\/p>\n

Jonathan Pryce will continue to follow Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, while\u00a0Lesley Manville<\/a>\u00a0will continue in her role as Princess Margaret, following Helena Bonham Carter.<\/p>\n

Season 5<\/a>\u00a0highlighted the royal family in the early-to-mid 1990s, likely focusing on the Prince and Princess of Wales\u2019s failing marriage, separation in 1992 and subsequent divorce in 1996.<\/p>\n

The final season of The Crown<\/em> is set to hit Netflix later this year. And we can. not. wait.<\/p>\n
