Victoria Beckham has been setting trends<\/a> for the better part of three decades and her influence shows no sign of waning. Take, for example, her recent endorsement of 70s-style flares. The designer took to Instagram overnight to showcase a new pair of jeans from her eponymous label\u2019s pre-fall 20 collection, which went on sale over the weekend. She called the jeans her favorite piece from the collection, styling them with a shrunken knit, also her own design. \u201cThey look so great with this knit, which is sparkly without being over the top,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

The jeans\u2014which feature contrasting pockets, front and back\u2014perfectly capture the 70s renaissance that is sweeping the fashion industry<\/a> right now. Gucci\u2019s creative director Alessandro Michele has long been influenced by the decade, and his Resort collection was jam-packed full<\/a> of 70s references, like paisley prints, Penny Lane-style coats, and brown corduroy slacks.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve seen the trend crop up at Miu Miu too, with Miuccia Prada sending graphic printed knee-length skirts and cropped sports-style jackets down the runway at the brand\u2019s spring summer 21 show in Paris in September. At Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri layered brought-from-the-bazaar printed robes over crisp white shirts, layered with brown leather belts. Celine, Balmain, and Raf Simons all showed 70s-style flares on the runway too.<\/p>\n

So, how do you wear them? Flares can be tricky territory to master\u2014but if executed properly, they\u2019re incredibly flattering. Opt for a darker shade of indigo, then pair with a cropped sweater or shrunken tee (extra points for adding a pop of color). Then, add height with a heeled ankle boot, or an oh-so-seventies pair of platform heels. Alternatively, you can channel your inner \u2018model off-duty\u2019 and bang on a pair of high-rise Chuck Taylors<\/a>.<\/p>\n
